Many companies have been impacted by the economy, which has resulted in an increase in unpaid internships. There is now a greater need for universities to aid in compensation. The Toppel Internship Program is a zero-credit transcript notation course coordinated by career services and serves multiple purposes for students, academic departments, and employers. By creating this type of program at your institution, you will open doors for your students, while alleviating the stress for employers as it relates to Fair Labor Standards. After this presentation, you will learn important steps and best practices. University of Miami’s Toppel Internship Program is used as a real-world example to illustrate how this program is run and how it can continue to grow.
This presentation was part of the Intern Bridge 2009 Career Services Online Conference.
