This presentation will introduce the work of James Weinberg, the founder of multiple organizations in the nonprofit sector. The program will provide an overview of the nonprofit environment and the social entrepreneur’s sub-sector within that larger whole. Emerging trends in the sector’s unique job market in the wake of the economic crisis will be analyzed, in addition to a discussion about the Obama Administration’s stimulus. The presentation will conclude with some suggestions for helping recent graduates navigate these turbulent times to find great jobs that challenge them intellectually and fulfill them personally.
James Weinberg is the Founder & CEO of Commongood Careers (www.cgcareers.org), a national search firm dedicated to enabling innovative nonprofits to build strong organizations through the recruitment, retention and development of outstanding talent at every level. In addition to having placed 500 leaders at 150 organizations in 20 states over the past 4 years, Commongood Careers has built and supported a candidate pool of over 50,000 jobseekers. James is also currently working to establish a new venture called The Talent Initiative that is dedicated to enhancing human capital management throughout the sector. Starting in 2010 with support from the Kellogg and Skoll Foundations among others, The Talent Initiative will select an elite cohort of organizations and provide them with intensive consulting and technical assistance designed to help them get the right people in the right roles, build world-class management systems, and optimize their organizational cultures. Previously, James served as the National Development Director at BELL and as the Executive Director of the Homeless Children’s Education Fund.
